30 Minutes a Day
It’s funny how a little time used daily on some task adds up to something big. There are some games I play for like 15 minutes and the progress I make after a month just astounds me. Sure I may not be advancing as fast as others, but I’m moving forward and have fun in the process. But, what about other things?
Well, I find it’s the same for other things such as taking vitamin pills. I have a bottle of 500 pills and thought I’ll never finish it since they’re so many. One day, I looked inside that bottle I’ve been taking once each day and there’s only 3 pills left! Incredible? For me, it seems like it. But, that’s what happens when you do something each day.
And how about exercise? Actually, I don’t do a lot of that and I know should. But, I told myself, whenever I can, I’ll take the stairs instead of the escalator and walk instead of taking a bus. And that alone maintained my weight. Just small changes here and there makes a difference. A big one sometimes.
People feel that they have to spend hours every day on something if they really want to get it moving on a certain task or skill. I’ll agree with that, but what about people who don’t have that kind of time? What if the time they can spare is only like 15~30 minutes a day? Will that make a difference?
Of course it does!
On this daily blog, I would spend a minimum of 30 minutes to brainstorm an idea, make a quick draft and then work on the corrections. It could take more or less time, but it usually doesn’t go beyond an hour to finish. I would think if a blog entry was about 2,000 words, perhaps I would need 2~3 hours maybe which would be spread over 2~3 days.
It’s just a matter of preparing for the task at hand and having the resources available on hand immediately to make the 30 minutes as effective as possible.
If I spend perhaps another hour on this blog, I could write more, upload photos, have some illustrations prepared and have additional entries prepared, so I don’t have to rush and feel desperate in getting the newest entry done.
There are several other things I could do with 30 minutes. And it’s about time I should spend a little each day in competing them eventually.
So, if there’s something you want to do but have little time to spare, then prepare that 15~30 minute block of time for it. Like an air bubble in the deepest sea, it’ll take awhile for it to reach the top, but it’ll get there. It’s inevitable.
Things to consider:
-
What task, project or skill do you want to finish, but kept pushing it back because of a lack of time?
-
Promise yourself you’ll spend at least 15~30 minutes each day on it. Schedule it in and have all the resources and materials ready on hand to do it.
-
Get yourself a timer and start it up when you start the task.
-
At all costs, concentrate on that task or project only during that time. Give it your all.
