Again and Again

Over and Over

I found that some things in life needs repetition to build good habits and lifestyle. The problem with this is that it can be really… boring.

The first time you do a new action, you feel uncomfortable and clumsy. However, you’ll probably enjoy the challenge of doing the action or task if it is a part of your goal. Later on, you get into a groove and move faster, but the excitement is gone. There’s no mystery to what you’re doing. As you keep doing the same exercises over an over, it can get annoying. You could get bored with the task if you’re too cocky or proud. You may want to give up since it’s the same thing time and time again…

Top Performers in Any Field are Sadists

I’ve been told singers in the Korean entertainment industry start as young as 10 to 12 and perform the same dance routines and songs as much as 5,000 times without making a single mistake. Even with all that practice done, there is no guarantee if they’ll make it. It’s all or nothing and they have to stare failure in the face at such a young age.

On an interesting note, some industry leaders in Korea like JYP (I heard this from him in a reality show similar to American Idol) would rather take absolute beginners without any perceptions of the industry and mold them in their own image, so they won’t be questioned every step of the way. It seems that people with talent are more inflexible, thus cannot reach success in that form since they are unwilling to comprise with what they have.

My Limitations

In terms of my life, I realized I need to focus on a few things and get them done each day at all costs. I’m not very capable of multi-tasking since I have a day job. I know that for me to improve bit by bit, I have to accept that I can’t do some things until I can have complete mastery of what I’m trying to accomplish currently. That will probably mean I’ll have to change some things in my goals and manifesto. It is a lesson learned.

Looking for a Mentor

My thoughts have been on this for awhile. As much as I could read about things and find things on the Internet to reach my objectives in life, I feel that I could accomplish much more quickly if someone was giving me advice and proper direction on the work I’m doing. My fear with mentors is money. How much money do I need to spend on a coach to get me to the level I want to be?

I believe a great coach can bring me to a level I never even thought of. I hope to find such a person like that. I know I may not have what it takes because an obstacle like money really bogs me down. When taking care of a family, it does that to you. I also seem to lack the time to get the steps I want done.

What can be Done?

In terms of my resources and time, I have to maximize what is available and make most of it. It requires a discipline that I don’t have yet, but each passing day, I feel that is going to change. All of this comes down to making that routine and using repetitions to accomplish them. I also need to convince myself this is going to be fun process.
