Lost

by macklc on November 4th, 2010

Where do I Go from here?

What a time to feel this way. I had plans made and things I want to do.

Then I feel lost.

Is it due to information overload? Perhaps.

Is it because I don’t know where to start? That’s a possibility.

Am I being tested? Who isn’t?

Anyways, I know I have to start somewhere.

Start and Stop

The biggest problem I have to deal with is me starting something and not working on it on a regular basis. With me being busy with so many things these days, I feel like my head’s spinning over and over. I know I have to begin somewhere and do it and I feel so reluctant to even take that first step.

It’s really downright annoying.

Now, there are things I can’t start and stop such my work, eating, spending time with family and sleeping. I know these things will be done each and every day. However, all the other things like my goals don’t have that same priority, that same urgency they need to be done. Somehow I have to have that same urgency to work on my goals like doing my work or sleeping.

I’ve made lists of things and I know what I want. Then, I get easily distracted by something on the news. It’s ridiculous! Today, I must of wasted a few hours surfing useless tidbits on the Internet instead of working on my projects.

Making entries into this blog is part of the list, but I just can’t get over this inertia. Is it hopeless? No. I just don’t like how I easily fall apart like a stack of cards.

Things to Consider for Today:

  • Too much thinking. Just do it.
  • A ton of stuff? Just do it.
  • It’s too hard? Just do it.
  • Excuses? Just do it.
  • Hard? Just do it.
  • Wha? Just DO IT!

  1. Judging from the above, you know the answer.
    Now excecute.
    Make it so.

Easier said than done, I know.

    Here’s a trick.
What you need is a Rubicon.

Have you heard of that story?

On January 10, 49 BC, Julius Caesar led his invasion army across the Rubicon River in violation of law, thus making conflict inevitable. Hence the use of the term “Crossing the Rubicon” as a metaphor for deliberately proceeding past a point of no return.

Like Hector in The Iliad, you need to burn your ships on the beach so that retreat is impossible and the war you are fighting becomes a battle for your very survival.

On October 1st I quit my job to get some comic work done.
Been living with no income for over a month now.
That was the Rubicon I crossed.
Now I must “Just Do It”.

I’ve heard about Rubicon, but never knew where that word came from or the story behind it. I also read about stories about a person who landed his troops on foreign soil and burned his ships saying retreat is impossible. It’s either victory or death.

What I also didn’t know was who these people were that did what they did. It was a total eye-opener for me (and from my iPhone from all the places.) I didn’t know about the Rubicon story and that it was Hector who made the act to burn the ships. Thanks for sharing! :)

It’s times like these I wished I read more literature…

You’re absolutely right. I do need a Rubicon to accomplish my goals. I don’t think if I’m as bold as you to quit my job and go after what I want.

That being said, I really want you to achieve success with this. You have my prayers, support and protons on your endeavors and ultimate success. You’ll make it!

Point on that. I have to keep my priorities straight. It’s been a challenging time for me, but it hasn’t been boring to say the least.
