“Know Thyself”
You would think that you are the one that knows yourself best considering you knew yourself at a young age, grew up, grow old and… die.
Unfortunately, there are many people that goes through life never finding this out.
Who am I?
At my age, I thought I knew who I was. I know about my habits, my talents, my fears, my vices, my likes, my loves, my hatred and my thoughts are and I felt these told me who I was.
These days, I feel that’s not nearly enough.
When I look at people that are tremendously successful, they really have an in-depth knowledge about their own psyche and know how to perform at a level that’s quite incredible. What’s even more amazing is the fact that they can do this consistently, day in and day out. The amount of work they must of put in to reach that is something I want to achieve on my own.
They can also analyze and figure out what kind of steps they have to follow and take action immediately each day until they accomplish where they have to go. These guys are just “killin’ it”. As for me, I feel I have some momentum to do that, but the wheel is still turning quite slowly.
I’m afraid that I may hit a bump and stop the slow wheel from going faster. The call for action is needed, yet I stumble and fall over various obstacles.
Any Suggestions?
Does anyone have any ideas on focusing on the task at hand and keeping the eye on the prize? Would better knowledge of myself show me the certain things I must do and the ones to avoid completely? Or, am I thinking waaaay too deeply and I should just write up a list and get that done?

You have to WANT IT.
All in caps.
After that it is just a matter of dodging and smashing down obsticals, and adapting to the present situation to advance to the next level towards the final goal.
Don’t worry about the bumps.
You’re going to hit them anyway.
Spend less time on “to do” lists.
Spend more time to just DO IT.
If you don’t know yourself already, don’t fret.
There’s still a long journey ahead of you.
You’ll get to know eachother as you go…

I’ll agree with that. Tim Ferriss said something on the lines like this: Ready… FIRE! Aim. I’m pushing for that mentality and execution.

I believe in what you say is correct with knowing yourself.
If you look in your past at accomplishment that you were successful and unsuccessful, you can then dissect into what work and what dint work for you. Then maybe reformulating what worked to your future endeavors will be a good step towards your goals.
Ive meet some people that absolutely needed a rock solid plan before taking steps and some that just wing it. The best way you can proceed into accomplishing your goals would be to know what motivate you and what needs to be done in your situation for your goals.
Hope this helps.

TIE,
Thanks for the good advice. I’m sure many people like myself appreciate things that can help us move forward by the day.

Here’s another answer to your question:
If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).
So how to discover your purpose in life? While there are many ways to do this, some of them fairly involved, here is one of the simplest that anyone can do. The more open you are to this process, and the more you expect it to work, the faster it will work for you. But not being open to it or having doubts about it or thinking it’s an entirely idiotic and meaningless waste of time won’t prevent it from working as long as you stick with it — again, it will just take longer to converge.
Here’s what to do:
1. Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
2. Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
3. Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
4. Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose.
