The Biggest Sports Event on Earth has Arrived
2010 World Cup
I’m talking about the World Cup of Soccer in South Africa. In Canada, hockey’s the big sport there while in the US, they like their baseball, basketball and American football.
For the rest of the world including Korea, it’s soccer.
I’ll be cheering for the Republic of Korea where I reside. There’s already a big buzz with the students chanting, “대한민국!” in the hallways of the institute I teach. I have no doubt that crowds across the country will roar and shout when Korea plays their first match against Greece.
I think the current version of the South Korean team is one of the best teams ever composed. It has quite a bit of players that have played in Premiership and other leagues. I hope they’ll get some calls going their way, some excellent plays and a couple of good bounces that’ll translate into goals.
It’ll be tough since they’ll play Argentina and Nigeria as well. I hope they realize they have just a good of a chance as anyone to win this cup. I truly believe that. Let’s hope they can get a goal like this one at the 20-second mark:
Here comes the Rain
Since yesterday night, it’s been raining steadily. I think after this clouds pass, the weather will get pretty humid and sticky. Seoul is so humid during the summer. It’s best to stay indoors to avoid getting heat stroke.
I haven’t quite decided where I’m going to watch tonight’s match. I’m sure it’ll be for a good time. Take care and be well!

You know I cheer for Team Canada whenever I have the chance, however when it comes to big sports competitions, I can’t help but to think this: http://counterpunch.org/ross06102010.html

That was an interesting article. Who would of thought the World Cup determining the fate of nations? When I think about it, It doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s the colosseum all over again on a global stage.
