What makes a Winner?

by macklc on December 21st, 2010

Every Day is Not the Same

This morning around 8:30am, I would get up to start my day. When I don’t think about it too deeply, it seems every day is the same. Yet I know, each day is unique if I reflect on each hour, each minute and each second. There’s always a little change here and there that would define how things went.

Today, I tried to make most of it. Some things were scheduled which were family related and I did all that I can to get it done. At 12:30pm, I went to work and found some changes in my schedule which freed up my time. In my spare time, I got caught up reading some e-mail. I quickly went through them as fast as I can. Then I said to myself, “It’s time to work on my dreams and goals.”

Shiv Khera

Today I want to share a video about winners and losers from Shiv Khera. The key point I got from this is the difference between winners and losers.

Winners take things upon themselves and go for it. They push to be at their best and make that step forward each and every day. They do this all this to the point of sheer pain and still continue.

As for losers, they look at their circumstances and environment and say, “This is why I couldn’t get it done.” In other words, they blame people and life. They wait for the perfect moment, the perfect chance.

And it never comes.

Are Politicians Losers?

It’s funny. Whenever I see politicians, a lot of those people working for the government is always blaming something. They say, “It was because of this I couldn’t keep my promise.” That means almost every politician no matter how valid their reason is… is a loser.

Is that truly the case? Or am I going overboard?

Are Athletes Winners?

Then, I would hear or read about athletes who train and train until they ache all over. They would practice one sport 8 to 14 hours a day, seven days a week. They would hone their minds to say they are best at that sport. There’s no one better than them. They would do this for an event that’s long as 4 hours or as short as 8 seconds.

I think there’s something to learn from people who play sports or people who are dedicated to one thing in their life. If we could live our lives like they did, we would see more people happier I think.

Things to Consider for Today:

  • Think like a winner.
  • You are a winner.
  • Go for it!  :)

I really must disagree with this definition of a winner, it sounds like an old war mantra: “Conquer! Destroy! Crush your enemy!” I hear this repeated in business and sports and propaganda; the idea that given a hammer, every problem becomes a nail. It scratches just the surface of winning, it never delves into our unconscious need for harmony with our fellow amoebas.

Winning is finding what you’re willing to repeat daily for the remainder of your life. The journey.

I’m not sure if I can agree with your definition of success either. That being said, I’m not thinking you should be crunching whatever person or thing in front of you to win. Going back to athletes, some want to fight for the gold medal or top trophy. For that to happen, they have to beat others who are participating to win the prize.

For others, they want to perform at their best at that event. Nothing else matters. I think that person is more of a winner if she believes she gave it her all and is happy with her performance. But, she still wants to do more. Is she greedy? I don’t think so. She is trying to raise the bar and challege herself to be better.

I mean, who truly is your opponent? That person is standing in front of the mirror. But, I think it is much better to see that person as your friend.

As I think again about your comment Matt, I think I agree with it. I just feel there’s needs to be something added to it.

God is nothing more, and nothing less than the reflection in the mirror

(…sorry, had to get that out.)
