Where are you going?
In life, I’ve seen people come and go. I’ve seen friends appear and then travel off to far distant lands. I’ve seen my parents visit me in Seoul a few years back and then go back. I saw my uncle last year which I haven’t seen for like a decade and had lunch with him with my family. No photos though. I forgot to bring the camera.
I’ve seen literally hundreds of students in my five years as a teacher. Some were so brilliant and spokely English natively and some were fantastically…. awful. I’ve seen so many of them grow before my very eyes. Much of it brings a smile to my face if not all. At times, I ask some of my students where are they going with their lives. Many say the same thing:
“I want to be the top student at my school.”
“I want to goto a foreign language high school.”
“I want to goto a good university.”
“I want to be a doctor.”
“I want to be a lawyer.”
“I want to make lots of money.”
“I don’t know.”
Such vision. Some of them are incredible and others… short-sighted. I shouldn’t talk though. I’m not better than any of them.
Anyways, I hope everyone has a good time this weekend. In a few days, the cherry blossoms will come out in Seoul and all over Korea. Go check out if you’re living here and haven’t seen it. It’s quite awesome! It was one of the reasons why I came to Korea in the first place. Take care!
