You Gotta Look and Grab What’s Yours!

by macklc on June 24th, 2010

Actions are something we all do if we’re living in this world. How much action we do is determined by us. What induces us to act is through pain or pleasure.

I would like to share two stories that happened in a period of 24 hours.

The First Tale:

Yesterday after work, I punched out and drove home. I didn’t like the music that was on the radio, so I hooked up the iPhone to the tape system. I was still not happy with the music playing on my iPhone either, so I pressed the forward button blindly while I was driving. As I was getting closer to home, I kept pressing the screen hoping to find some good music. I ended up hearing some Gospel songs and gave up changing the tunes since I was seconds away from parking.

At the front gate, there were 2 cars in front of me, so whatever close parking spot will probably go to them since most of the parking spots were already filled in. I sighed and said I’ll have to park a little bit away.

Well, that’s what I thought.

Then, as the two cars continued on their way, I looked left to see the convenience store and saw it was dark. I then looked at the closest parking spot and found the store’s owner’s car still parked there! I was thinking he must be ready to go home, so I made a pass, turned around, came back, went behind his car with some distance, turned off my lights and waited.

Surely enough, the owner came out and entered his car. He soon drove off and I parked in his place. Sweet!  :)

The Second Tale:

Today, as I was walking towards the subway station, I felt the urge to move faster. It was a feeling of anticipation; I felt the subway was on its way. As I was running, I saw the subway coming along the bridge. My legs started to burn and I was losing strength. The weather was a little bit hot, so I didn’t like the fact I was sweating like crazy. I wanted to give up and take the next subway, but something in mind pressed me to run as fast as I can.

I zipped through the ticket gate and ran up the escalator. I can hear the cricket sounds which meant the subway doors were already open. I didn’t have much time. I would get to the top and ran full speed toward the doors. The doors started to close, but  I was still determined to run through it. The person in charge of the subway doors must of saw me run towards the doors and re-opened them just in time for me to get in.

I was huffing and puffing for like 5 minutes, but I made it.  ;)

Points to Ponder:

What’s there to learn from this? From the first story, it’s simple. Look out for opportunities. Even when things may not go your way, if you keep seeking for chances that could make your life better, you’ll certainly find it. The 2 drivers ahead of me didn’t see what I saw and I took advantage of that.

As for the second story, it was risky and could lead to failure, but the moral of this one is take action and go for it. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get into the subway, but I believed it could be done and I wanted really wanted to do it. If I didn’t get in, I would of felt upset since all the effort was wasted, but I would of never be sure if I was just gave up halfway. There are lessons to learn from failure if you look for it. Take heart and make each day the best day you can.  :)
