I just hate how I missed the wave.
Oh well, I’ll make use of the smaller splashes.
Music in the p.m.
Earlier in the afternoon, I was listening to a lot of serious music made by James Rhodes and Umi Garrett.
Say wha? Serious music?
I knew about James Rhodes. Steven Pressfield introduced me to this article that gave me a glimpse of this pianist.
Today, I ended up watching two TED talks he did.
This one:
And this one:
If you watch one of the TED talks, you’ll understand where I’m getting the term ‘serious music’.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. The first video I watched from James was this:
He talks candidly in and straight to the point. I think a lot of feathers would be ruffled with his colorful language.
I found it refreshing.
If they were directed towards me, I know my feelings would be hurt, bad. But hey, I’ll take any feedback and learn from it.
And Umi Garrett? Well, she was randomly picked after the Rhodes TED talks. At the age 15 or 16, she did two TED talks as well here:
And here:
Amazing.
Oh yeah, this was her first TV appearance was Ellen:
For good measure, the final TED talk I saw was a guy made his own grand musical staff:
Back to Serious Music…
To delve into serious music (classical music) like this seems like ages. I wondered how I got so far away from music, the piano (I haven’t played for months…. years?), the guitar (definitely years), the brass instruments (definitely since high school)
I know the benefits of music… and playing a musical instrument… from a TED talk.
Ah, the links I have to find after finishing this post…
But I’m glad to watched, listened, be inspired by the power, the love of music.
I know deep inside, I must play music again. Just like I know I must write again each day and draw and illustrate each day.
Again.
For my sanity. For my happiness. Ultimately, for my connection with others.
I can start to understand why one of my friends was so eager to find connection and I wasn’t able to deliver it because of my acts of incompetence.
In time, Cyper must connect, encourage others and be likely be trampled on. It cannot stay in this pupae stage indefinitely.
