Give an Inch, Take a Mile

A Crack Becomes a Gusher

You have to take care when you’re giving things or making mistakes. Sometimes what you think is small can be much, much larger, longer, and more dangerous.

Toronto Raptors vs.  Cleveland Cavaliers

The Raptors are trying to become a premiere team. They are looking for their first NBA Championship.

In their way is Cleveland. They have their big 3 in LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. The Raptors got to the Eastern Conference Finals after beating the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat in seven games. The Raptors would be the first team to beat the Cavaliers two times and that was all they could do.

The Raptors lost the playoff series and three others to Cleveland this regular season due to small, mental errors. The Cavaliers are a well-oiled machine when they come to play against the Raptors. They know it’s possible to meet the Raptors in post-season this year. The Cavaliers made the Raptors pay for each turnover and misstep made.

It’s not that the Raptors lost badly. On Monday, the Raptors lost to Cleveland by four points. But a loss is a loss and could cost the Raptors home-court advantage.

The season is young. And before that, the Raptors had a six-game winning streak. The best that can  be done is to learn from the errors made and make sure to mentally prepared for the final season game and possibly post-season.

My Minute Lost Became an 2 Hours

I had a great start. I woke up around 5:40am. I went swimming for an hour. I did some mental prep after coming home. My mind was primed to do the work. I had my block of time all set.

Then I told myself to take a small break because I was a little sleepy. I took a nap and blam! Two hours gone. I felt groggy. I had to get ready for my work at the English institute.

As much as I can explain away the rest, the cost much greater than 2 hours. The momentum I had from the early morning was gone. Starting again was daunting. I didn’t feel the need to move forward.

I wouldn’t get a second shot until I got home. Fortunately, I did start, at the urging of Da Boy. And I felt the time was ticking down.

Yes, this a a kick in my own pants moment.

Foot to the Throat

Never think it’s over until it’s over. Never think that you can do anything like turning on the light switch. Never think something is always easy.

You will nipped in the ass.

We must do the things we care about at the right time. We must be vigilant and aggressive. Give an inch and take a mile?

No. Put your foot on the throat of the task. Press down firmly and hard.

“I got you and it will stay that way until I’m done.”
