Small and Mighty
When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
– From The Sound of Music
A huge cruise liner is coming to port. It uses its massive engines to cross oceans and power all the things inside from rooms to swimming pools. However, when it is close to land, it doesn’t dock on its own. It requires little tugboats to pull and tow the large ship into position.
The human body has multiple appendages and organs. The body has a brain than exceeds all the intelligence of the creatures that live on Earth. Yet, the most creative and damaging organ isn’t the arms, the legs, the eyes, or ears. It is the tongue. That single muscle has caused more creation and destruction throughout human history.
The seconds of time means little like grains of rice. Add trillions upon trillions upon trillions of seconds, numerous plants and animals live and die.
It is the little things that affect us all. We must remember a single flap of a butterfly’s wings can create a storm that tear apart buildings.
Small and Good
Fortunately, in all small things can come good to great things. The accident that created a mold in a petri dish would save billions of lives. Bob Ross says it best here:
Happy accidents. What needs to be said is to appreciate the little things in life. Whether good or bad, perfect or flawed, we can take the small things and feel thankful if our minds are open to possibilities.
Holding hands with a loved one. Seeing the birds flying high in the sky. The winter fresh air. Cracking a small joke with students. Having three meals a day. Being able to sleep in a warm bed. Being thankful for our health.
Yes. Let’s appreciate the little things in life, just because we can.
